When I was a mere young prodigy of nerd greatness, there was only one TV show I gave a crap about. It was about a bunch of alien man-cats from the planet Thundera, and their young leader, Lion-O. Thundercats will always be engrained in my head one way or another. It’s like the show is a part of my genetic makeup because of the obscene number of hours I spent watching it. I even bought the animated series box set when I got older, and by that I mean like last week. I’ve watched maybe two episodes total but this wasn’t about watching them all over again. I just had to have it so that people can know I grew up on Thundercats when they visit me. It was like the Eye of Thundera itself was making me do it.
A few months ago, Cartoon Network revealed plans to remake and reboot the Thundercats franchise under new supervision. They will take a bit of an anime approach to the material and ultimately are looking to build a new, fresh fanbase for the popular 80′s brand. Below is the debut trailer of the new Thundercats. As I anticipated, my initial feelings are mixed. I may be nitpicking, but this seems too anime-heavy at times. There is also a severe lack of chants regarding the Sword of Omens. Am I to understand that Lion-O will not be using his mythical “Thunder…. thunder… thunder… thundercats…. Hooooooooooo!” chant? If not, then Cartoon Network will lose.
